Probabilistic Trace Alignment

Giacomo Bergami, Fabrizio Maria Maggi, Marco Montali and Rafael Peñaloza

Alignments provide sophisticated diagnostics that pinpoint deviations in a trace with respect to a process model. Alignment-based approaches for conformance checking have so far used crisp process models as a reference. Recent probabilistic conformance checking approaches check the degree of conformance of an event log as a whole with respect to a stochastic process model, without providing alignments. For the first time, we introduce a conformance checking approach based on trace alignments using stochastic Workflow nets. Read more

Efficient Approximate Conformance Checking Using Trie Data Structure

Ahmed Awad, Kristo Raun and Matthias Weidlich

Conformance checking compares a process model and recorded executions of a process, i.e., a log of traces. To this end, state-of-the-art approaches compute an alignment between a trace and an execution sequence of the model. Since the construction of alignments is computationally expensive, approximation schemes have been developed to strike a balance between the efficiency and the accuracy of conformance checking. Specifically, conformance checking may rely only on so-called proxy behavior, a subset of the behavior of the model. Read more

XES 2.0 Workshop

Although the popularity and adoption of process mining techniques grew rapidly in recent years, a large portion of effort invested in process mining initiatives is still consumed by event data preparation rather than process analysis. The Task Force on Process Mining conducted a study focused on the challenges faced during event data preparation (from source data to event log).

The XES 2.0 workshop shares the results of this survey and will help guide the evolution of the current XES standard towards XES 2.0. Read more

Call for Discovery Algorithms for PDC 2021

PDC 2021 is the 2021 edition of the Process Discovery Contest.

Do you believe you have implemented a good discovery algorithm? Then submit it to the PDC 2021 to put it to the test!

This test contains 480 event logs, for which a model needs to be discovered (training logs), and 96 event logs that need to be classified using the discovered models (test logs).

The 96 test logs are all generated from the same configurable model, which was inspired by a model discovered from a real-life event log and has the following configurable options:

  • Long-term dependencies: yes/no
  • Loops: no/simple/complex
    • A simple loop has a single point of entry and a single point of exit.
