Transforming Westpac Banking Group: Unlocking the Power of Process Mining for Scalable Digital Excellence
MARIEKE DE RUIJTER Executive Manager, Intelligent Process Office, Westpac Banking Group
HIGH-LEVEL SUMMARY: Join us to gain insights into how Westpac Banking Group is transforming its operations through pioneering process mining strategies, and learn how to apply these principles to your organization’s digital transformation journey.
ABSTRACT: In this keynote, we will explore the journey of establishing and running a Centre of Excellence in Process Mining at Westpac Banking Group. We’ll delve into the innovative integration of process mining and task mining to bridge gaps in process discovery, providing a more comprehensive and accurate picture of banking operations. We’ll also discuss how to combine process discovery & analysis with data-driven simulation & monitoring, using digital process twins to create a roundtrip process mining approach. Altogether, this holistic strategy has empowered Westpac to achieve operational transformation in ways previously thought unattainable.
The session will also highlight critical lessons learned, emphasising the importance of measuring realised benefits rather than merely tracking activities. We’ll cover the necessity of building robust partnerships with IT teams to ensure a continuous flow of data and avoid project roadblocks, as well as with the delivery teams to guarantee the effective implementation of recommended changes. Finally, we’ll tackle the challenge of scaling process mining across an organisation and explore operating models that can drive both accountability and sustainable growth.

HIGH-LEVEL SUMMARY: Curious to discover how to use object-centric process mining and machine learning to optimize an organization’s supply chain?
Join us in this session where we tell you more about how we supported an organization in improving their On Time In Full (OTIF) deliveries. With the application of rule mining on a object-centric data model we derived and quantified patterns that impact the performance on OTIF. These insights have been validated with domain experts and can be applied to improve the organization’s supply chain process.
ABSTRACT: This use case session will highlight our collaboration with an organization in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. We will demonstrate the use of object-centric process mining and machine learning techniques to analyze and enhance supply chain processes. Through the creation of an object-centric event log and applying rule mining, combined with visualizing problematic object interactions, we identified key factors impacting On Time In Full (OTIF) deliveries, including specific locations, seasons, material types, and organizational units. Our approach integrates process mining and machine learning, validating findings with domain experts and providing a comprehensive root-cause analysis across the organization.
We will also discuss ongoing efforts to integrate and expand these capabilities within Celonis for improved accessibility and real-time process monitoring. Our findings encompass various risk patterns, including locality, time, and domain-knowledge patterns, offering valuable insights for supply chain optimization.
Transforming HR Operations: Reducing Cycle Time in Job Change Processes through Process Mining
CHRISTIAN MÜLLER Head of Process Intelligence, Sanofi
HIGH-LEVEL SUMMARY: Discover how we transformed the global Job Change process at Sanofi, drastically cutting down cycle times by 86%. This session will walk you through the journey of simplifying and harmonizing an HR process initially fragmented across 70+ countries. Using process mining and strategic automation, we addressed inefficiencies and streamlined the workflow, resulting in significant time savings and improved consistency.
ABSTRACT: In this session, we’ll share how Sanofi tackled the challenges of a complex Job Change process spread across numerous countries. Originally set up in Workday without a unified approach, the process had grown complicated, making centralized management a struggle. With the introduction of shared service centers, we used process mining techniques to pinpoint inefficiencies and introduced automation solutions, like automatic reminders, which addressed most of the bottlenecks. This led to a global redesign, bringing the average process time down from 21 to just 5 days and reducing inconsistencies by two-thirds.
We’ll also discuss how the harmonized process was implemented worldwide within a year and explore ongoing efforts to apply process mining in other areas, such as hiring and ticket management in ServiceNow. Future initiatives aim to further automate tasks and optimize processes across Sanofi’s HR operations.
