What is the ICPM 2025 Hackathon?

In October 2025, over the course of four weeks, process scientists, business experts and storytellers from around the world gather for this global hackathon. The ICPM 2025 Hackathon will take place in the weeks leading up to the ICPM conference: teams of diverse backgrounds address challenges using data provided by the Uruguayan Digital Government Agency (AGESIC) regarding the online government procedures traceability system.

The ICPM 2025 Hackathon provides participants with a real-life event log, and challenges them to analyse these data using whatever techniques available, focusing on one or more of the business questions or providing other unique insights into the process(es) captured in the event log. We strongly encourage people to use any tools, techniques and methods at their disposal. There is no need to restrict to open-source tools, and proprietary tools as well as techniques developed or implemented specifically for this challenge are welcome.

Uruguay has been a leader in the e-Government index in Latin America for the last decade and recently in the Americas. The e-Government processes support online procedures of the Uruguayan government, registered by the Uruguayan Digital Government Agency (AGESIC) centralised traceability system. Most government processes can be initiated online. The processes selected for the ICPM 2025 Hackathon concern immigration processes to Uruguay. Events logs spanning multiple years has been extracted, anonymised and translated. Business questions of the government agency include throughput, differences between different types of immigration process variants, bottlenecks, differences between offices, … So, let’s start hacking this data!

Participation

You can take part in the ICPM 2025 Hackathon either individually (i.e., create a team by yourself) or as part of a larger team.

Step 1: register a team on the easychair entry for the hackathon. The title of the submission
should be your team name, and the abstract and keywords any text you like.
While you may be on a team by yourself, we highly recommend that you work with other participants (there is no maximum team size). Teams can be hybrid, it is mandatory for at least one member from each team to physically attend the ICPM 2025 conference in Montevideo, Uruguay, to present the result. Please be aware that registrations to the conference will close on October 10th.

You do not need to be a coder or data expert to be a part of the ICPM 2025 Hackathon. Teams with the most diverse sets of skills actually tend to be the most successful. All skill levels and professional backgrounds are welcome. At the ICPM 2025 Hackathon, there’s always space for one more team!

Team registration is open from 23 September to and including 10 October 2025 (AoE).

Step 2: within two business days of registration, you’ll receive a link to the data. The data will be accompanied by a detailed description of the data, the processes captured and the business questions that the government agency is interested in. The data is to be used only during the hackathon and must not be spread beyond your team. A conditions agreement clause is provided in the easychair submission link to commit to this requirement.
Step 3: hack away! Analyse the data to answer the business questions and find that one insight that will blow the jury away!
Step 4: Hand in a slide deck of at most 10 slides (inPDF), that (at least) one team member will use for a pitch presentation at the conference. The slide deck submission is to be done before or on 19 October (AoE). Submission instructions will be provided with the data.
Step 5: Present your analysis of the data, and the deepest, most actionable insights you revealed in a 3-5 minute pitch at the Industry Day of the conference (October 22 morning session).
Step 6: During the ICPM conference the winner of the ICPM 2025 Hackathon will be announced.

Evaluation

The submitted slide deck and the pitch will be all that will be taken into account by the jury, which will consist of representatives of the government agency AGESIC, the industry chairs and mystery jury members.

The pitches will be evaluated by a jury based on the following evaluation criteria:

Comprehensiveness in addressing the business questions provided.
Creativity in framing and addressing additional business-relevant questions that were not explicitly provided, but which enhance the usefulness of the analysis.
Actionability and potential impact of the provided insights and proposed improvements for the government agency
Novelty of the techniques and solutions employed
Clarity and effectiveness of the final results presentation

FAQ

Who can participate in the ICPM 2025 Hackathon?

The Hackathon is open to everyone, including those who have never “hacked” before! All passionate problem solvers, from students to life-long learners, are encouraged to join. While some parts of our challenges are technical, others ask you to use creativity and business acumen. In other words, you do not need to be a coder or data expert to be a part of the ICPM 2025 Hackathon. Teams with the most diverse sets of skills are often the most successful!
The only requirement is that one of the team members registers for, attends, and presents at, the ICPM 2025 conference in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 22 October. Please be aware that registrations for the conference will close on October 10th.

Does it cost anything to participate?

No, participation to the ICPM 2025 Hackathon is free, apart from the requirement that one team member must register to the conference and present the submission.
